Glendona is just 1/2 mile from the ancient village of Glenavy "Church of the Dwarf", the site of a church founded by St Patrick's aide, Daniel, a man of small stature.

The present St Aidan's, Church of Ireland, stands just opposite the old site.

The Parish Church of St Aidan's, Glenavy, was presented with a silver chalice by the Duke of Schomberg in 1690, to thank the locals for their hospitality shown to his troops.

An attachment camped at Glenavy and this chalice was a gift to the church of Glenavy for the hospitality shown to the troops.
